It means you were required to go to Traffic Violation School because of a conviction. It doesn’t cancel the conviction.
Effective July 1, 2011, California courts must report traffic safety violations as convictions. If the driver is eligible and completes a Traffic Violator School (TVS) course, the conviction will be masked on the driver record.
You can verify that the court received notice of your completion at the court web site. If the court has received record of traffic school completion, the Case Status will reflect TVS – Conviction.

Law and Regulation Questions
Laws are different depending on where you live. When asking questions about law, you need to state the applicable city, county, state, and/or country. If a regulation you may need to give program name.
The fine and traffic school were a result of your conviction, paying the fine doesn’t remove the conviction from your record
