At VidyaGyan School, a group of students embarked on a mission to address the challenge of waste management within their community. Recognising that waste generation is an inherent part of human existence, they sought to not only manage it but do so responsibly.
The project, initiated by these forward-thinking students, was designed to collect and segregate various types of recyclable waste, from paper and plastic to metals, glass, and electronic waste. Their goal was clear: diverting these materials away from landfills and towards recycling units, aligning with the principles of a circular economy.
Empowering Communities through Recycling
This student-led endeavour, founded by Harsh and Shivani, extended beyond the walls of the school. It included efforts to gather reusable clothing, books, and footwear from families in the community. These items were then distributed to those who needed them most, particularly labourers working in nearby brick kilns.

This initiative received vital support from the VidyaGyan School. Principal Ms. Meenambika Menon and Economics teacher Ms. Oneeka Deep played crucial roles in guiding and facilitating the project. Access to resources like computer labs empowered the students to research and refine their waste management strategies. The administrative staff also stepped in, providing essential supplies and logistical support to ensure the smooth execution of the project.

Though it began as a small-scale effort, the impact of the Waste Management project led by VidyaGyan students has been substantial. To date, they’ve successfully managed over 500 kg of waste, positively affecting nearly 150 individuals. Their commitment to sustainability and community welfare is unwavering.
