The song/tune was by Jim Pepper who was Creek Indian as well as jazz musician. We know the version by Jan Garbarek. We are naming our narrowboat Witchi Tai To and would like the exact meaning!

Well the song is based on a ritual native american chant. There’s no exact translation of the Comanche chant but it could possibly be

Yes I remember…great tune! Lead by multi instrumentalist Chris Hills (from your neck of the woods if I recall). They were actually Chris’ band. The first album was simply titled “Everything is Everything featuring Chris Hills” (where “Witchi Tai To” appears). Their 2nd and final album was titled “Comin’ Outta the Ghetto”. I still own both LP’s on vinyl (Vanguard Records). To be totally honest, I don’t even remember how or where I acquired these albums. Haven’t played either in years. If I recall, outside of a few cuts they were nothing spectacular…fairly decent Jazz/Horn Rock, much like contemporaries of the time Blood Sweat & Tears, Gas Mask, If, Chicago, Lighthouse, etc. I do know that their sax/flautist Jim Pepper was also in the band “The Free Spirits’ along with jazz guitar great Larry Coryell. I own their sole LP as well titled “Out of Sight and Sound”, released in 1967/68 or thereabouts…I preferred that much more
