Background

Captain Morgan’s Tattoo is a Caribbean-inspired tattoo establishment that opened in 2004 in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles. The shop became popular for its unique and iconic tattoos, including the captain himself.

But Captain Morgan’s Tattoo has now been discontinued, as the shop’s owner, Tony Alamo, confirms on social media.

What happened?

There isn’t one clear answer, but there are several potential reasons why Captain Morgan’s Tattoo may have closed its doors for good.

First and foremost, the shop may have been struggling financially for quite some time. In April 2016, Alamo flagged down Eater LA to ask for help: “We’re just about out of money,” he said at the time. “We’ve been undercapitalized for a while.”

Second, Captain Morgan’s Tattoo may simply not be resonating with today’s tattoo enthusiasts. As Alamo told Eater LA: “We’re doing something different now.” This could be due to changing trends in tattooing (for example, more modern or abstract styles), or it could be that younger tattoo enthusiasts are choosing different establishments to patronage (for example, trendy Los Angeles shops like Needle & Thread or Sacred Tattoo).

This product was a tattoo ink designed to be applied to the skin. It was made by combining natural ingredients like ginger and turmeric with other herbs and spices to create a unique flavor. The ink was available in several shades, including black and blue, and it was supposed to last for up to four days without fading or smudging.

Despite being a popular product, Captain Morgan’s Tattoo was discontinued due to concerns about safety. The company safety officer stated that there were too many reports of people getting allergic reactions to the tattoo ink. While this may sound like a minor inconvenience, it could potentially lead to serious health problems if left untreated.

While it is unfortunate that Captain Morgan’s Tattoo has been discontinued, it is important to remember that there are other brands of tattoo ink available which are likely safe for use.
