Is he ok I heard he wrecked

My brother was at the track – said the car just exploded – so sad and crazy.

Unfortunately he died as a result of injuries suffered in a crash after a race on Saturday.
Just after crossing the finish line the car exploded into flames. The parachutes were deployed but not enough to slow the car down & he ran out of room after the run off area & hit the end of the course & the car exploded further.

It was rather unfortunate.

It was a horrible crash. My condolences to the family and the NHRA racing world. They lost a good man today. #18 had posted, but some idiot got the question deleted. There really a lot of narrow minded people on here, that can’t really be members of NASCAR Nation and be that rude. My prayers are with the family.

I just saw the accident on ESPN2, my prayers go out to the Colletta family and the whole NHRA family as well.

Loving the sport of racing is a double edge sword – it oftens brings us happiness but it can also bring us terrific sadness.

Lets say an extra prayer for all the other drivers out there that still have racing to do this weekend, and every weekend after that.

I am a member of the NASCAR nation, and I love all forms of racing and my heart hurts just as bad with this terrible loss of a talented driver that was taken from us way too soon.

My prayers go out to the Kallitta family, since it is the family and friends who will suffer. Nothing in life is guaranteed as you can see from this horrific tragedy. I am 51 and have experienced the death of family members and people who are close to me. It is very important to never stay mad at someone and always say goodbye with loving words. We do not know if they will be the last. It is the words that have gone unsaid, the words you have held in your heart, but never let go past the end of your tongue for what ever reason. I hope the Kallitta family has closure; however, things like this take time. Believing in Jesus Christ and all he offers to anyone who is willing to follow him acknowledging he died on the cross for our sins brings comfort to all. Knowing we are here on Earth temporarily and something much bigger awaits for the rest of eternity brings comfort. The peace of mind associated with a higher power greater than ours helps comfort even the most distressed souls.

ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. – Scott Kalitta died Saturday when his Funny Car crashed and burst into flames during the final round of qualifying for the Lucas Oil NHRA SuperNationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park.

The NHRA said the 46-year-old Kalitta — the 1994 and 1995 Top Fuel season champion who had 18 career victories, 17 in Top Fuel and one in Funny Car — was taken to Raritan Bay Medical Center in Old Bridge, where he died a short time later.

Witnesses told The Star-Ledger of Newark that Kalitta’s Toyota Solara was traveling at an estimated speed of 300 mph when the crash occurred.

The Palmetto, Fla., resident started his career at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in 1982. His father, Connie Kalitta, was a longtime driver and team owner known as “The Bounty Hunter,” and his cousin, Doug Kalitta, also drives competitively.

Scott Kalitta is survived by wife Kathy and sons Corey and Colin.

NASCAR Nationwide Series driver Brad Keselowski — a native of Rochester Hills, Mich., about 20 miles away from Kalitta’s hometown of Mount Clemens — learned the news from a television report Saturday afternoon.

“That really hits close to home,” Keselowski said after winning the pole position for Saturday night’s race at the Milwaukee Mile in West Allis, Wis. “(He was) a friend of my family’s, and I send my thoughts and prayers out to him. That’s tough to hear.”

Last year, Funny Car driver Eric Medlen died after an accident in a testing session at Gainesville, Fla.

Scott Coletta was born in San Bernardino, California, on October 10, 1979. He began his racing career at the age of eight, competing in quarter midget racing. By the age of 16, he was racing in the NHRA Junior Dragster division. In 1996, he won the NHRA Division 7 Junior Dragster Championship.
