What does “Balance on Deposit or Balance Owed” mean?

Filling out a rental application and I’m not sure how to answer this one. I have no debts or loans if that’s what it’s asking, and all my bank accounts are positive.

Balance On Deposit

Leave it blank and ask. Sounds to me like they want to record whether or not you’ve put any money down already towards the deposit on the place.
