In my previous post about the importance of gratitude, I illustrated how it can change our mood and focus. But gratitude isn’t just a feel-good emotion — it has also been shown to have physical effects, such as reduced inflammation and improved cardiovascular health.

So what do we owe our bodies? Here are four ways that being grateful for your body can benefit you:
5. Improved mental clarity and focus. Gratitude sparks joy in the heart, which in turn leads to increased creativity, productivity, and alertness. When we’re constantly focusing on what is good in our lives, it becomes much easier to stay on track no matter what challenges arise.
4. Reduced inflammation. Chronic inflammation is linked with a variety of diseases, including cancer and heart disease. One of the main reasons that gratitude reduces inflammation is because it boosts our immune system. When we think positively about our body and all its amazing capabilities, we become more likely to take care of it properly by eating healthy foods and getting regular exercise.
3. Improved cardiovascular health. Gratitude has been linked with better blood pressure control, lower cholesterol levels, decreased inflammatory markers, and even longer life spans (due to a decreased risk of chronic stress). By taking time each day to appreciate our body for all that it does for us — from providing food and shelter to keeping us safe from harm — we can help ensure that our circulatory system stays strong for years to come!
2. Increased happiness and well
