I got Pan’s Labyrinth, and despite an English cover, English writing, it isn’t in English. Is this movie deliberately kept this way, and if so – why?
No there’s no English version of it. The director and writer, Guillermo del Toro, purposely chose to do it in Spanish. The movie is set in 1944 Spain after all and more importantly he wanted to do the film how he thought it should be done. Going for quality and realism, which was definitely the best choice.
It’s really an amazing movie though, don’t let the foreign language put you off. I’d imagine you would get used to the subtitles after the first 10-15 minutes or so, it just takes a little practice.
Apparently there **IS** an English dubbed version on Blu-Ray, but it’s region 2 (UK) only. Boo.

Pan’s Labyrinth; is there any English-dubbed versions? And if not, why?
The latest film by Guillermo del Toro, Pan’s Labyrinth, has been receiving a lot of acclaim and awards lately. But is there an English-dubbed version? And if not, why? In this article, we’ll take a look at the answer to both of those questions.
What is Pan’s Labyrinth?
Pan’s Labyrinth is a 2007 Spanish-language drama film directed by Guillermo del Toro. The film was written by del Toro and Hella Joaquín, based on the novel of the same name by Mexican author Antonio del Real. The story follows a young girl named Ofelia who is forced to participate in a dark ritual led by her cruel stepfather. In order to escape, she must pass through the Labyrinth, an elaborate maze filled with horrifying creatures.
There is no English-dubbed version of Pan’s Labyrinth available yet, but there are plans to release an English-dubbed version in theaters. The original Spanish cast will reprise their roles in the dubbing process. Del Toro has stated that he prefers the original voice actors because they “sound like themselves” and create a more authentic experience for viewers.
Pan’s Labyrinth has been met with critical acclaim since its release. Reviewers praised del Toro’s visual style and dark story line. It has been nominated for multiple awards, including Best Picture at the Golden Globe Awards and the Academy Awards. It is currently in theaters across North America.
The Spanish-Language Versions of Pan’s Labyrinth
Pan’s Labyrinth is a visually stunning and haunting film that was released in 2006. The Spanish-language version of the film was released in 2007 and it has since gained a cult following. However, there are no English-dubbed versions of the movie available, which has led to some fans wondering why.
According to Latino Review, Pan’s Labyrinth was not well-received when it first debuted in Spain because it was seen as too dark and scary for children. In order to make the movie more palatable for younger viewers, directors Guillermo del Toro and Andrés Muschietti added new scenes and changed the tone of the movie. Additionally, they replaced dialogue with dubbed English dialogue.
Despite these changes, Pan’s Labyrinth still manages to be a scary film. It has been praised for its visuals, storytelling, and performances by its cast. While there are no English-dubbed versions of Pan’s Labyrinth available, fans can still enjoy the movie regardless by watching it on subtitled or dubbed versions.
Why Was the Movie Not Dubbed in English?
Pan’s Labyrinth was released in 2006, but did not receive an English dub until 2009. There are several reasons for this delay. The first is that the movie was initially made in Spanish, and Spanish is not a language that English-speaking viewers are familiar with. Second, it took a while to find a dubbing company that could accurately translate the dialogue and provide an appropriate audio track. Finally, there were logistical issues to consider – such as finding distribution channels for an English-dubbed version of the film. In the end, all of these factors came together to create a delay that lasted five years.
Conclusion
Pan’s Labyrinth is one of those films that I believe everyone should see at least once. The story is haunting, the acting is amazing, and the visuals are stunning. However, due to its Spanish language origins, it has never been released in an English-dubbed version. This lack of availability makes it difficult for people who don’t know Spanish to enjoy the film on its own terms. There have been attempts by fans to create English-dubbed versions of Pan’s Labyrinth over the years but they’ve all failed. So why hasn’t an English-dubbed version ever been released? Probably because it’s hard! It would take a lot of effort and money to produce an accurate dubbing adaptation that doesn’t ruin the integrity of the original movie.
