I’ve been wondering the same. It’s a tattoo on model Vince Kowalski.
I haven’t found a definite answer, but the best guess I’ve found is the following:
LXIDCXIII looks like Roman numerals, but it doesn’t work as a single number. The rule for Roman numbers is that the bigger numbers have to go on the left, and L (50), X (10), and I (1) are all smaller than D (500).
However, if you assume it’s actually two numbers together, you get:
LXI = L(50) + X(10) + I(1) = 50 + 10 + 1 = 61
and
DCXIII = L(500) + C(100) + X(10) + III(3) = 500 + 100 + 10 + 3 = 613
If you add those together you get 61 + 613 = 674, which could mean anything…
But Roman numerals don’t work like that. It’s just two numbers. There’s no indication that they’re meant to be added.
However, if you write them side by side with no space, you get:
61613
Which some people have guessed REALLY means the date
6/16/13
June 6, 2013, which might be an important date to him and/or someone he loves.
