General Physics Question 4 (Optics)?

A glass rod is charged to +5.0nC by rubbing. a) Have electrons been removed from the rod or protons added? b) How many electrons have been removed or protons added?

protons cannot be added or removed. Only electrons can be moved.
The charge of an electron is 1.602 × 10-19 coulombs
So the number of electrons removed is:
(5×10^-9)/(1.602 × 10-19) = 31210986267electrons
approximately 31 billion electrons are removed.

a)electrons have been removed. protons never move, they are fixed.
b)simple math. divide 5nC by the charge on one electron
