In this problem it asks me to group those compounds that are chiral and those that are achiral. This is what I put but it turns out i was wrong. Can anyone please help?
NClBr2CH3+ ; N+ is isoelectronic with C, and two groups are identical, so it’s achiral. I don’t believe it exists, though.
The rest look right to me; presumably HPClBrCH3+ is P+ with 4 different groups
Your achiral choices are all correct except NClBrCH3+. That should be written as
….Br
….|
H-C-NH3(+)Cl(-)
….|
….Br
which has two Br atoms attached and is achiral.
I have to ask: What country are you from that chemistry is taught in this way?
